Mervis 60K Diamond Cupcakes!

In late April I received an email from from Jonathan Mervis (you know the radio commercials: Mervis Diamond Importers, deep in the diamond mines of Africa, her love, all that good stuff) sharing some pictures of “the world’s first diamond cupcake!” Jonathan and Ronnie Mervis made two of them – frosted with $60,000 worth of diamonds. – to showcase at the Wedding Rings and Diamond Cupcakes Trunkshow earlier this month. Take a look at the cupcakes!

Cupcakes (edible, non-diamond cupcakes!) for the event were provided by Classic Bakery of Gaithersburg, MD. I’ve heard of Classic Bakery before as I’ve had a couple friends get their wedding cakes from there, but never knew they had cupcakes. Classic sells their cupcakes for $1.75/each, though they might only be available by advance order – so call before going by! They didn’t have any pictures on their website, but look at these cute little Tiffany’s boxes they did! Adorable.

Nostalgia Cupcakes Valentines Flavors

Nostalgia Cupcakes, who officially opened their doors on January 29th, is celebrating Valentine's Day with two special flavors.
The first flavor, Velvet Kiss, is a buttery soft chocolate cake with a liquid caramel center and bittersweet chocolate ganache. Cherry Cordial is their second flavor, and this cupcake is a chocolate cake filled with a soft cherry center and dipped in chocolate ganache. Sounds delicious!
You know what is really cool about Nostalgia Cupcakes? They are the first cupcakery I have seen to offer a frequent buyer card! Some of the blog readers and I were discussing how we wished cupcakeries would do this - so it's nice to see one finally run with it! When you make a cupcake purchase at Nostalgia, just ask the front counter for a frequent buyer card. Each time you visit they'll stamp the card, and after the 6th visit you'll recieve a free cupcake!
Nostalgia Cupcakes
is located at 188 Main Street, Suite 102 in Annapolis, Maryland. Custom orders should have 24 hour advance notice - 410.280.0660.

Nostalgia Cupcakes has finally arrived! Sharon White's delicious and Cupcake Contest winning cupcakes will be available from her storefront beginning this Saturday, January 24th at 10am.

Sharon has lots of tasty options on her menu - over 20 selections of standard flavors and 8 premium flavors. Standard flavors are $3.50/each, and I believe premium flavors are only made to order, but I couldn't find this out for sure. Aside from cupcakes, Nostalgia Cupcakes also sells a variety of cookies, brownies, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate with their own homemade marshmallows.

According to a recent article in the Washington Post, Cup of Yumm is searching for store space in and around Gaithersburg. Cup of Yumm is a Maryland based online cupcakery who offers at least 24 different flavors, as well as two seasonal flavors.

Through the same Washington Post article, I also discovered that online-only Bakeshop DC, who sells their cupcakes at Murky Coffee, is planning to open a storefront in Clarendon. Bakeshop DC's cupcakes are priced at $36/18 cupcakes and $42/24 cupcakes.
