NEW! Lavender Moon Cupcakery

If you haven't heard by now, there is a new cupcakery in town! And no, I'm not talking about Hello Cupcake! It's Lavender Moon Cupcakery in Alexandria, Virginia. Joining the ranks of other big Alexandria cupcake bakeries, Lavender Moon crept into the cupcake scene with a modest opening late last month. With such innovative flavors as Summer Peach & Basil, Passion Fruit Mousse Stuffed Pistachio Vanilla, and Mexican Chocolate Pudding Buttermilk Chocolate (talk about long names!), it sounds like they should be able to keep up with the Alexandria cupcake staples like Buzz and Bittersweet.

One thing that strikes me about Lavender Moon is their focus on using local ingredients, like farmers market peaches for that Peach & Basil flavor.

Lavender Moon must have been eager to open, because they don't even have a phone number or a website set up yet. If you're in the area, they're located at 116 S. Royal Street. I wanted to head over there this weekend, but I'll be in Blacksburg for the Virginia Tech game (GO HOKIES!) So Lavender Moon will have to wait until next weekend.
